Seven-a-side football for players with Cerebral Palsy has featured in the Paralympic Games since 1984. GBR has competed in the Games on four occasions:
- In 1984 in Stoke Mandeville, when GBR won a bronze medal in the inaugural tournament
- In 1992 in Barcelona, when GBR was beaten by Ireland in the bronze medal play-off match
- In 2008 in Beijing, when GBR finished seventh of eight nations
- In 2012 in London, when GBR qualified as the host nation, and again finished seventh of eight nations
Given the presence of three home nation teams in competition at international level, the GBDFA is called upon to nominate one to serve as its “flag-bearer” in qualification for the Paralympic Games. The comparative standards of the home nations can be seen from recent European and World Championships – thus:
- European Championships 2010, Glasgow: SCO 5th, ENG 6th of ten nations
- World Championships 2011, Holland: SCO 6th, ENG 10th of 16 nations
- European Championships 2014, Portugal: SCO and ENG 5th equal, NIR 8th of 11 nations
- World Championships 2015, St George’s Park: ENG 5th, SCO 9th, NIR 14th of 16 nations
